Also as a young man, as seemed my responsibility, I worshipped at the altar of Albert Camus and his books The Stranger and The Fall. His notebooks were also a great read and I pored over them. One entry that became cemented in my psyche was: Poe’s four conditions for happiness-Life in the open air.

Love of another human being. Average happiness appears to be highest in regions where family pattern of “absolute nuclear” prevails and lowest in the regions where “egalitarian nuclear” family dominates.

Control for economic prosperity in regions does not change this picture. The How of Happiness is a different kind of happiness book, one that offers a comprehensive guide to understanding what happiness is, and isn't, and what can be done to bring us all closer to the happy life we envision for ourselves.4/5.

SYNOPSIS: A bottom-up guide to finding success, growth and happiness through flow – an optimal experience of being, characterised by total absorption and joy in.

Yet as we shall see, Aristotle was convinced that a genuinely happy life required the fulfillment of a broad range of conditions, including physical as well as mental well-being.

In this way he introduced the idea of a science of happiness in the classical sense, in terms of a new field of knowledge. Based on years of groundbreaking research, The How of Happiness: A New Approach to Getting the Life You Want is a comprehensive guide to understanding the fundamentals of happiness.

It is data based, thorough, and practical — the best of the bunch on happiness. I truly love this book because it was my introduction to the science of happiness and the beginning of my career helping.

How Happiness Happens: Finding Lasting Joy in a World of Comparison, Disappointment, and Unmet Expectations. Way back inWalter A. Pitkin wrote ‘The Psychology of Happiness’ and in this book, he differentiated between happiness and related emotions including pleasure and enjoyment (Samuel, ).
